My Page

Hi, my name is Trevor and welcome to my page. This page is intended as a loose record of my own journey along The Weigh Loss Path, from being extremely fat and very lazy to becoming a much slimmer version, who can look forward to a fitter and healthier future.

This time last year, and I can’t believe we are nearly at the end of September already, I was eating myself into an early grave, and by Christmas I knew I had to do something about it, I am not going into the how’s and why’s of how I got into this state as I have covered it in the article First Steps: Getting Started. In January I set myself a program which on reflection might have been a bit over ambitious, but I’m not really disappointed, because I might be a little behind on my weight loss, but my fitness is well on target, my walking is going well apart from a short period when I had a problem and couldn’t walk, but all is well again now.

Thursday 19th September 2013,

You may have seen my article about Tai Chi, telling you all about the benefits, well its only fair if I am going to talk about it, that I should check it out for myself. I live in North West London, and I have enrolled myself into a course of Tai Chi,  my first impression was how friendly everyone was, which is a pleasant change from the way most things are today. The instructors are very friendly as well as being very professional, but after the first ten minutes I really thought that I had made a mistake, because of my shape, still to much weight round the front, it was hurting my lower back, and that was just the warm-up, but we had a couple of minutes break and that was just long enough time to settle my back. When we actually started the class I found that much more relaxing and very enjoyable, and a couple of the exercises reminded me of a time when I did deep meditation. I can say with all honesty that by the end of the class I felt stress free, and more relaxed than I have been for a long time, plus I got the best nights sleep for ages. All I can say for now is that I am really looking forward to the next class, and I will be writing about my progress on this page, so check it out. If anyone is interested Google Tia Chi and your area, to find a class near to you,  I highly recommend you give it a try, you can only benefit.

Sunday 22nd September,

Today was supposed to be a cycling day in the country side with a couple of friends who were lending me a bike for the day. Everything started well, the bikes were strapped onto the rack, and off we went. The route they had picked out was what they called a short blast through the country side, with a distance of about twenty miles, and as they said you shouldn’t even break into a sweat. After setting the bike up to suit me we were off, and the first thing I realized was that modern bikes have very uncomfortable saddles for us fatties. The first quarter mile was quite easy then we started going down hill, and on and on it went, I then realized what goes down has to come back up again, and at that point I Knew I was totally out of my depth, and there was no way I could keep up, so I mainly walked back, and they carried on round, and I only just got back to the van before them. I think the main lesson I learnt was, don’t try to run before you can walk, and you won’t get disappointed.

Thursday 26th September,

As promised I am keeping you informed of my progress in the Tai Chi classes, I have to say that I am still suffering in the warm-up, but it was more intense than last week. Between the warm-up and the class starting there is just a long enough break for my lower back to recover, although the movement we practice in the class is more relaxing than it is stress giving, which is good because we seemed to work a little harder this week. We covered a lot more about balance and how we move, and how we shift body weight as we move, my balance is not great at the moment so it has given me plenty to think about, and practise, and I am now more conscious of how I move. I seemed to have a better grasp of what we are aiming for, and I felt relaxed after the class and again go a great nights sleep, but as it is now Saturday when I am writing this I can also say that I also got a good nights sleep last night, so something good is happening. So how do I feel after the second lesson, I feel calmer, and more aware, plus it reinforces what I said after the first lesson, I wish I had started long ago, and you should check on Google for a local school and give it a try, all you can do is gain.

Friday 11th October,

I can’t believe we are a third of the way through October already this year is just racing by. Last night was my forth session of Tia Chi, and the work load is definitely getting harder, but that is more down to my size, shape, and fitness level, than the class. The warm-up session is getting more vigorous, and pushing your personal limits, and I now have sweat running down the outside of my tea-shirt. The actual class where you are learning the moves to make up the form, is less intense movement wise but demanding concentration wise. So to sum up the first four classes, has it been worth the effort, yes most definitely! I am more flexible than I have been for years, I have become more aware of my posture, my balance has improved, I have more energy and I sleep better. Would I still recommend it to others, yes of course, even more so, anybody who takes this up can only gain, in fitness, general outlook, and overall well-being, so if you get the chance to try it, DO IT!

Friday 25th OctoberSandy boy

Today’s entry has nothing to do with weight loss or fitness, but it does have a lot to do with the modern society which we live in. Today is the sadist day I have had for a long time, as I had to have my lovely Goldie who has been a loyal friend and companion put down, just because I had left him in my car. He used to love sitting in the car and watching the people go by, but on this occasion a person or persons decided they wanted to see if there was anything of value in the car they could steal. Sandy was no guard dog, he was a people dog, he loved everybody especially children, and when they opened the car his tail would have been wagging and he probably had one paw up to greet them, but they still decided to beat him so badly they ruptured internal organs, closed one of his eyes and made his mouth and nose bleed. I am also partly to blame because I didn’t realise how bad his injuries where till it was to late, it was only when he started getting bloated that I realised he had internal injuries, but then it was too late. I just think it is really sad that anybody would want to hurt such a loving and friendly dog, and Sandy wouldn’t of understood why anyone would want to hurt him……
